Guitar holiday gift list
Here’s a little something to help guitar freaks AND their friends and family looking for guitar-related holiday gift ideas.
IF YOU ARE A GUITAR FREAK
Comment away with your wish list for guitar-related presents. Now, before you go to fantasy land and list a super-expensive vintage 1950’s Les Paul, be realistic with your present ideas. Also, be as specific as possible to make it easy for folks to go and find your gift. Feel free to send a link to this post (copy/paste http://igblog.wordpress.com/2007/11/19/guitar-holiday-gift-list/) to nudge folks into buying you a jammin’ christmas present.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN EASY WAY TO FIND GIFT IDEAS FOR A GUITAR-PLAYING MUSICIAN
Browse the comments below and see what you can find. Come back every once in a while to see if more ideas have been added. And comment if you have any questions or need helping finding a gift.
I’ll have this list up until January of next year, for those folks who wait for the post holiday sales! Giddy up!

IG dishes out inspiration and ideas to guitar players everywhere.

Thanks,
Your Friend (Goooood Friend) (Bro) (Perro) (etc.)

Inexpensive: Intellituner IMT-500. Lets you tune even acoustic guitars in noisy rooms without a cable. $25 http://www.shsaudio.com/intellituner.htm
Moderate: Line6 Pocket Pod. The ultimate headphone amp that also lets you record on your PC. Gives the guitarist limitless tone possibilities in a completely portable package. Small enough to put into a case. Sounds great into an amp as well. $130 http://line6.com/pocketpod/
Generous: Taylor 110e. Even professional guitarists will go gah-gah for this American made acoustic guitar with state of the art electronics. Plays like a dream, sounds great acoustically, and sounds like a real acoustic guitar plug-in (not like a piezo emulation). It’s the ultimate “beater” guitar without having to break the bank. You’d have to spend $1400 to get a better guitar…..Comes with a gig bag for $650 http://www.taylorguitars.com/Guitars/100-200/100/110e/ You could spend a little less and get a non-electric model for $500.
Extraordinary: The Eric Johnson Stratocaster. Simply the best and most consistent production guitar Fender makes. Vintage vibe with the right modern conveniences. Fender makes these with little variation between builds, so mom/wifey can confidently choose the color without you being there and know that you’ll love her forever. $1700 http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0117702806
Thanks for the heads up Kevin!
IG’s gift wish:
For those of you (family mostly) looking to give IG a good holiday gift, IG is really looking into an acoustic guitar amp. Preferably a Genz Benz amp (http://www.genzbenz.com/). Not sure exactly which one yet; I’ll come back soon with some specifics. But, just wanted you to start thinking about it.

Cheap: Fender T-shirt, preferably extolling the virtues of Telecasters, but this</a
Reasonable: Morely Volume Pedal. I’ve seen ‘em on eBay for $40, and that would be fine. My volume pedal has a scratchy pot, and Morleys do not have pots.
Pricy: A Telecaster. Preferably sunburst. In fact, there’s one at the local guitar pusher’s that I’m quite fond of. My Tele has Not Even Slinkys (.012-.05
tuned down to D, and I’d like to re-nut it and make it a BEADF#B baritone, and I’d like to have another that I can put on .009s and be very slinky with.
Salty: A steel-string small-bodied (orchestra or smaller) acoustic with a slotted headstock. This is a great example, but you don’t have to go that far, I don’t think.
Salty 2.0: My current amp is a Frontman 25R, and it sounds good, but it is not worthy of playing out. A club-worthy amp, maybe one with separate head and cab, would be nice.
Extravagant: A pedal steel guitar. A Carter Starter with add-on gear would be a great place to start.
I’m thinking seriously still about getting myself a Gibson BFG. Cheap, cheerful, great electronics, groovy ratted-out finishes.
Well, obviously, if your guitar freak does not have Guitar Hero I, II and /or III, then get those, along with your choise of handy axe… and also look for the game “Rock Band” - I’ve only seen one commercial for it, but it looked friggin wild with the singer lip synching Deep Purple’s “Highway Star” while he and the band are on the roof of their tour bus as it’s hurling on and off the road. I was like, “what the…?!?”
oops - “choice”, not “choise”…
Man, Guitar Hero is looking tempting… If anyone has money left over after they buy my acoustic amp, maybe consider adding Guitar Hero to the stocking…
